Amsterdam to open its first avocado restaurant

By on 17th December 2016

Everybody and their grandmother knows that the avocado is super healthy thanks to scientific research and all the super foodies advocating the avocado on social media in recent years. Apparently Amsterdammers (as we call people from Amsterdam over here) are so health hungry for the exotic fruit that three friends from the Dutch capital have decided to open Amsterdams’ first avocado restaurant.

Avocado bars are already a thing in New York, but in Europe not so much, at least up until now. The idea for the restaurants comes from friends Julien Zaal, Ron Simpson and Jaimie van Heije all hailing from Amsterdam. They posted apicture on Facebook of the place that’s going to be turned into the restaurant they’re going to call The Avocado Show. The result was a flood of positive reactions.

Even though their soon to be restaurant is still a work in progress, the three guys have enough ideas for the menu.  They told the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: “We’re collecting delicious recipes ranging from avocado burgers and ice-cream to chocolate smoothies with the green fruit to avocado fries: The possibilities are endless. Our only rule is that the dishes need to contain the green super fruit in one way or another. So if you like it, you’re going to be very happy in our restaurant.”

The threesome is planning on serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and maybe even ‘late night dinner’, for the people who want to eat something a little more healthy than a midnight kebab to keep up the gains. Simpson says: “Not that I would fancy an avocado salad at two ‘o clock at night, but I would like an avocado burger. And rather in a nice place, without fluorescent light. Soon you can do that at our place.” The Avocado Show will be located in Amsterdam neighborhood The Pijp.
